Your Adirondack Basecamp

What better way to see the beauty of the hub of the Adirondacks than a day of paddling? Whether you prefer to kayak or canoe, grab your oars, and explore hundreds of miles of rivers, lakes, and ponds.

The Essex Chain Lakes Complex is made of 18 bodies of water through three towns and two counties and includes the Hudson River. The Essex Chain Lakes provide ample opportunities for enjoying paddling, from a peaceful afternoon to a multi-day trip. Scenic campsites throughout the complex make a great way to extend your adventure.

Near the towns of Newcomb and North Hudson, the Boreas Ponds Tract is a protected wilderness with excellent views of the high peaks and some seriously pretty paddling. Boreas Ponds is easily accessible by car, while portages to other parts of the tract allow for paddling in more remote locations.

While out on the water, keep an eye out for the local wildlife — loons, deer, otters, and ducks are just a few of the animals you might spot on your journey.
