This hike is just off Route 9, on the east side of the Hoffman Notch Wilderness. Known for fine views with not much effort. A 2.4 mile round trip pays off with views of Schroon Lake and Pharaoh Mountain.
The trail goes under the northway through two culverts, but rapidly becomes forest with a steady, moderate, climb. This levels off right before the plank bridges at the 0.6 mile point, and the wooded summit of Severance Hill will be reached at 1.2 miles.
The first ledge offers views of Schroon Lake and Pharaoh Mountain, while a second view adds in Paradox Lake.
Trailhead: On the west side of NYS Rt. 9, 0.6 mi. south of the junction of Rtes. 9 and 74 off Exit 28 if I-87, the Adirondack Northway. There are two parking areas marked by a large brown and yellow sign.
