Directions to Access Points:
From exit 28 in Schroon Lake follow I-87 north for one exit to the North Hudson exit #29. From here follow Boreas Road west toward Newcomb. Continue for 13.5 miles to the trailhead parking on the left at the DEC sign. It is not recommended to drive the access road to Cheney Pond unless you have a high clearance vehicle.
If you cannot drive to the pond it is a half mile walk along the forest road, and easy downhill walk. Trout can be easily fished from shore and the bullheads tend to bite all day. There is a shallow bay on the north side of the pond which is a nice location for panfish and floating a bobber for brookies.
Cartop access only, but a cartop boat with a small motor could be viable as well. If you cannot drive to the pond however the half mile carry could be a tough one without a lightweight craft. While fishing from a boat is the best option, it is not the only option. Fish the shore of the small island near the rocky areas and in the grasses for the best bass fishing.
Fish Species Types:
Brook Trout, Bullhead, Panfish, Brown Trout, Smallmouth Bass
