Family style Square Dancing is a long-standing tradition of Schroon Lake's summer season. Every Wednesday evening in July and August, people flock to the town park for this simple pastime. They arrive by car, boat, skateboards, strollers and foot, wearing flip-flops, tank tops, cowboy boots, sneakers, jeans, capris, and shorts, and now and then a bathing suit or two.
"The crowd - which maxes out at close to three hundred on some nights, includes spectators in lawn chairs-attracts year-round residents, summer dwellers, and guests visiting town"~ Adirondack Life, 2002.
This event is FREE to the public. Schroon Lake Summer Square Dancing is made possible, in part, with funds from the Decentralization Program, a regrant program of the NY State Council on the Arts with the support of Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo and the NY State Legislature and administered by the Adirondack Lakes Center for the Arts, and an Essex County Arts Council's Cultural Assistance Program Grant with funding provided by Essex County.
Dances are held rain or shine, outdoors at the Town Bandstand and under the Pavilion in the event of rain.
